Villa Gia is a composite of three separately roofed buildings intertwined with unusual wooden staircases. It is comprised of four ample air-conditioned bedrooms, a lounge, a dining room, and a modern kitchen bracketing the sides of the enormous living room. There is also a Jacuzzi and a swimming pool. Traditional Balinese fabrics adorn the villa, as do many Balinese artefacts, including numerous pabuan (boxes traditionally used to contain the different components of temple offerings).
On entering the house one arrives in the main living area, open on three sides and overlooking the garden, with a back wall providing privacy. The room is decorated with a strong mélange of ethnic Balinese and modern furnishings. Overflowing into the swimming pool, the Jacuzzi tub serves as the focal point of the room. The extensive roof displays the underside of the intricately bound alang-alang (thatch), while a cornered sofa in the middle of the room, sunken in the terrazzo floor, skill fully offsets chunky wooden furnishings and antique ornaments.
The upper floor of the north building holds the spacious master bedroom that features an ensuite bathroom and considerable built-in cupboard space. A wooden ladder leads up to a cushioned loft, the ideal area from where to survey the property and jungle afar. Beneath the loft is a writing desk and chair and on the other side of the room, a corner sofa is bejewelled with delicate Batik cushions. This bedroom has access to a drawbridge-esque passageway leading to a mezzanine pavilion over the living room.
Downstairs are two further bedrooms. The second bedroom superbly combines Bali new and old, with a deep red embroidered langse (wall hanging) and modern beaded lampshades shrouding Balinese statues. An oval writing desk in the right hand corner surrounded by tall windows provides a wonderful location for composition. Cream cotton curtaining divides the washbasin from the main room. Beyond this is an outdoor ensuite bathroom, complete with tropical plants.
The third bedroom boasts double French doors lead to a seating terrace, shaded by the overhang of the alang-alang roof. The teak bed has its own mosquito canopy and is stylishly decorated with ikat fabrics, a traditional style of weaving from North Bali. An ensuite bathroom with an outdoor garden is off to one side.
The third building houses the lounge on the upper floor with kitchen and dining room below. The dining room is open on two sides to the outdoors providing a magnificent panoramic view of the grounds and swimming pool. The fourth bedroom features a king–sized bed with its own mosquito net canopy set on a polished wooden floor and panelling around the lower walls. Rattan blinds and bamboo lighting features accentuate the prominence of natural timber fibbers in this room. Below the lounge lies the kitchen, featuring full modern amenities, and a semi-outdoors washroom.

As the pool stretches away from the house, its shape triggers images of a river leading to the open sea. The wave-like boundary and overflow compartment at the far end of the pool intensifies this image. The lawn includes sun lounges at the poolside and a white cushioned tempat duduk (wide seat) for enjoying the delightful scent of Frangipani trees situated around the grounds.
